If I ask you to picture a park that is 1) in Scarborough, 2) within 200 metres of the 401, and 3) features a storm water outfall, you might imagine it to be a lot of things: noisy, bleak, smelly, barren…the type of place that takes things like joy and hope, and swallows them whole.
Terraview Park manages to be none of those things. In fact, you might even call it beautiful.
The highway is well-hidden to the north, and the storm water outfall is nicely landscaped and opens out to a lovely little pond that also happens to be the starting point of Taylor Massey Creek. On our visit, the city was just recovering from an especially brutal winter, and the park was still emerging from the snow. The trees were bare and the ground was soggy…but somehow, the park still managed to be pretty. I can only imagine how nice it looks in the summer or fall.
The playground is newly refreshed and features one of our favourite climbers: the Alpha Tower by Landscape Structures, a multi-level beauty also found at Trace Manes Park in East York and Stanley Greene Park in Downsview.
There’s also a smaller climber for younger kids, some swings, spinners, and a Cozy Dome – always a favourite with toddlers. Another toddler-friendly element is a little table-and-chairs setup, where the table is a mushroom and the chairs are acorn caps – a cute touch.
The splash pad overlooks the pond; when paired with the soccer field and the picnic tables set out beneath a gazebo, this must be a popular neighbourhood spot at the height of summer.
The pond has a path around its perimeter which extends to Willowfield Gardens Park just to the south. It’s not exactly a hike in the woods, but to a young kid it might feel like quite an adventure.
Terraview Park was our first playground visit in 2026, and it’s set a high bar for the rest of the season. Definitely worth a look.
